Course Overview:

Adobe InDesign is the industry-leading layout and page design software for print and digital media. As you complete this course you will master the InDesign workspace and its features to create a variety of projects.

This course prepares a student to take the Adobe Print & digital media publication using Adobe InDesign certification exam.

Students will need a copy of the Adobe InDesign CC software in order to do coursework.

Students will:
  • Explore the InDesign environment and edit a basic document
  • Create a page layout and add and format objects.
  • Add and edit the text in multiple blocks within a document
  • Add color, tints, and gradients to objects in their documents and manage the color settings.
  • Apply style formatting to text and objects.
  • Modify graphics and add tables to their documents
  • Apply transparency formatting and print documents
  • Create forms and ebooks
  • Add a table of contents and index to a document

Course Outline:

Lesson 1: Introducing the Workspace

In this lesson, you'll familiarize yourself with the Adobe InDesign interface. You'll learn how to open documents, use tools, view properties, manage document windows, and customize the workspace. You'll also learn how to navigate through a document and change interface preferences.

Lesson 2: Getting to Know InDesign

This lesson will guide you on how to use the tools and panels in InDesign and navigate through a simple layout. You'll practice using the Undo feature and understand the importance of the InDesign Defaults file.

Lesson 3: Setting Up a Document and Working with Pages

This lesson will teach you about the InDesign work area, including how to customize it to suit your work style. You'll learn about the Tools panel, Properties panel, and Control panels, and how to select and use various tools.

Lesson 4: Working with Objects

In this lesson, you'll learn about the Control panel in InDesign. You'll understand how it provides quick access to expansive options for editing selected objects and how it displays more or fewer settings depending on the size of your screen.

Lesson 5: Working with Color

In this lesson, you'll learn about the document window and pasteboard. You'll understand how to display different pages, use the pasteboard as a work area or storage area, and control the size of the pasteboard. You'll also learn how to work with multiple document windows.

Lesson 6: Flowing Text

This lesson will teach you how to work with InDesign panels. You'll learn how to open, close, expand, collapse, rearrange, and customize panels. You'll also learn how to create a custom panel group, ungroup panels, stack them, and minimize them.

Lesson 7: Editing Text

In this lesson, you'll learn how to move the Tools panel and the Control panel to best suit your work style. You'll understand how to undock the Tools panel, make it float in the workspace, and dock it again. You'll also learn how to move the Control panel and dock it at the top of the document window.

Lesson 8: Working with Typography 

In this lesson, you'll get to know the document window and pasteboard. You'll learn how to control the display of different pages, use the pasteboard as a workspace or storage area, and adjust the size of the pasteboard. You'll also explore how to work with multiple document windows.

Lesson 9: Working with Styles

This lesson will guide you through the process of working with InDesign panels. You'll learn how to open, close, expand, collapse, rearrange, and customize panels. You'll also understand how to create a custom panel group, ungroup panels, stack them, and minimize them.

Lesson 10: Creating Tables

In this lesson, you'll learn how to move the Tools panel and the Control panel to best suit your work style. You'll understand how to undock the Tools panel, make it float in the workspace, and dock it again. You'll also learn how to move the Control panel and dock it at the top of the document window.

Lesson 11: Importing and Modifying Graphics

This lesson introduces you to the document window and pasteboard. You'll learn how to control the display of different pages, use the pasteboard as a workspace or storage area, and adjust the size of the pasteboard. You'll also explore how to work with multiple document windows.

Lesson 12: Working with Transparency

In this lesson, you'll learn how to manage multiple document windows. You'll understand how to create a second window, arrange open windows, consolidate all windows, and close document windows. This will help you view different parts of a layout at the same time.

Lesson 13: Printing and Exporting

This lesson will guide you through the process of working with InDesign panels. You'll learn how to open, close, expand, collapse, rearrange, and customize panels. You'll also understand how to create a custom panel group, ungroup panels, stack them, and minimize them.

Lesson 14: Creating Adobe PDF Files with Form Fields

In this lesson, you'll learn how to move the Tools panel and the Control panel to best suit your work style. You'll understand how to undock the Tools panel, make it float in the workspace, and dock it again. You'll also learn how to move the Control panel and dock it at the top of the document window.

Lesson 15: Creating a Fixed-Layout ePub and Publishing Online

In this lesson, you'll learn how to dock the Tools panel. You'll understand how to undock the Tools panel and make it float in the workspace, and then dock it again. This will help you customize your workspace to best suit your needs.

All necessary materials are included.
